Huawei Canada has an immediate 12-month contract opening for a Research Engineer.

About the team:

The Software-Hardware System Optimization Lab continuously improves the power efficiency and performance of smartphone products through software-hardware systems optimization and architecture innovation. We keep tracking the trends of cutting-edge technologies, building the competitive strength of mobile AI, virtualization, graphics, multimedia, and software architecture for mobile phone products.

About the job:

  • Design and implement prototypes multi-media (audio, image and video) acceleration framework for AI SoC chips

  • Design and implement prototypes camera system and ISP firmware for AI SoC chips

  • Design and implement prototypes middleware for AI Soc chips

  • Contribute to define and design of integrated software-hardware(chipset) solutions for various applications such as robotics, HPC and automotive, etc.

  • Contribute novel ideas to improve serving efficiency and publish findings when applicable.


The target annual compensation (based on 2080 hours per year) ranges from $78,000 to $168,000 depending on education, experience and demonstrated expertise.

Job requirements

About the ideal candidate:

  • Ph.D or Masters degree in Computer Science, Math/Statistics, Electronics Engineering, focusing on embedded system, software development and related areas

  • 3+ years working experience in C/C++ in Linux environment

  • Knowledge of Computer Vision, Machine Learning and AI

  • Familiar with Linux kernel

  • Hands-on programming skills in C++/C/Python

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documentation and presentation

  • Working experiences on embedded system (arm) Linux kernel or machine learning lib implementation is an asset
