Huawei Canada has an immediate 12-month internship opening for a Strategic Researcher.

About the team:

The Technology Planning and Cooperation Department promotes strategic innovation across all of Huawei Canada. Working with fellow experts, the focus is researching new and upcoming areas of technology as well as strategic planning to help achieve long term vision of Huawei. This department offers a unique opportunity to leverage both technical and business skills.

About the job:

  • Participate in academic conferences and evaluation activities, providing technical insights.

  • Assist in technical path analysis, carry out research on next-generation emerging technologies related to computing and AI, survey the latest trends on a regular basis, and understand the technology evolution roadmap.

  • Identify the key technology challenges and study disrupting architectures, technologies, components, and algorithms to address those challenges.

  • Work closely with other team members to understand and analyze the interactions between computing systems and AI.

Job requirements

About the ideal candidate:

  • Doctoral candidate in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

  • Strong awareness of research trends within academia.

  • Publications in top conferences and journals.

  • Good teamwork spirit and excellent communication skills.

  • Demonstrate creative thinking.

  • Responsible, proactive, and passionate about solving challenging problems.

  • Actively participating in academic conferences, with prior experience is an asset.

  • Familiarity with one or more the domains below: 

    o   Distributed and parallel learning algorithms

    o   ML compilers and runtimes

    o   AI-centric DCN

    o   Specialized hardware for AI

    o   Hardware-efficient ML methods

    o   Efficient ML model training, and inference

    o   Memory management, memory pooling
